klangbezirk a cappella (district of sound)

Klangbezirk - vowels and consonants

"Klangbezirk” (District of Sound) is what results when four vocalists from different areas of Germany meet while working with the German National Jazz Orchestra under the baton of Peter Herbolzheimer. The vocalists, Tanja Pannier (Berlin), Juan Garcia (Bremen), Kathrin Scheer (Cologne) and Matthias Knoche (Leipzig), not only blend well by appearance, but the four of them also sound incredible together as well. Although individually, each vocalist is an amazing artist, when performing together their sound gives new meaning to attributes like “virtousic”, “enchanting” and “fresh”. Founded in Winter 2005, “Klangbezirk” is a first class vocal ensemble that has won renowned Awards in Gold for Jazz and Silver in the Pop category at the A-Cappella-Contest in Graz, Austria. In 2007 they placed first at the “7th Taiwan International Choral Ensemble Competition” and the renowned contest “Jugend Kulturell”, and placed second at the International A-Cappella-Contest in Leipzig, Germany. These four vocal artists have the ability to take the audience by storm with their engaging mix of Pop and Jazz standards performed in English or German. Their unique sound of close harmonies and interesting voicings, combined with an additional loop station, creates a pure A cappella setting by using traditional arrangements as well as their own arrangements. Although they routinely perform A cappella, the quartet occasionally performs with instrumental accompaniment as well. The quartet’s achievements and sound are awe inspiring in today’s musical age of lifeless pop songs – the quartet possesses the ability to touch their audience and reach to the core of their soul. Their listeners are commonly moved to tears or shout with excitement when the group performs such standards as „The Nearness of You“ and „Take 5“, or pop songs like „Flugzeuge im“ Bauch or „I Want You Back“.
